Berlin Philharmonic no longer German - now it's Jewish
BERLIN -- Simon Rattle rejected recent criticism about his leadership
of Germany's top orchestra after critics complained the Berlin
Philharmonic had lost its distinctive German romantic sound.
Rattle, a Jew, has been principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic
for four years. Many are looking to Friday's launch of Richard
Wagner's Ring cycle with Das Rheingold as a true test of whether he
can deliver.
At the heart of a debate in German music circles is whether Rattle, a
Jew, has moved the orchestra away from the dark, rich tones that mark
the German Romantic period and which many consider the Philharmonic's
trademark sound.
"In working with this venerable orchestra, he neglects the great
German symphonic tradition," Manuel Brug, a critic with the leading
Welt daily, wrote last month.
Rattle said: "You can call upon this sound when it's needed -- but
that doesn't mean that it's always needed," he was quoted as saying.
Rattle has frustrated the orchestra's followers by steering away from
the German Romantic repertoire that was cultivated for decades, and

Despite the criticism, Rattle remains popular among the members of the
orchestra, this is because he reorganized it by ridding it of his
critics.
His contract runs until 2010, and the arrogant Jew vowed that his
plans for the Berlin Philharmonic remain unchanged. "We want to play
an enormous bandwidth and for such a spectrum, we don't need only one
sound, but a full bandwidth of sounds."
A few years ago, the Israeli-based "World Economic Forum" named Rattle
among the 100 young leaders in its "Global Leaders for Tomorrow
Program 2003." The World Economic forum seeks to dissolve all national
boundaries - with the exception of israel - and usher in a New World
Order featuring a global economy, constitution, and military force.
